Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony at CHS

On November 8th, Capuchino High School celebrated the first official opening of a completed new construction project on the campus. The beautiful Spirit Court and the cafeteria complex were made possible by passage of Measure D. The school community celebrated by inviting community leaders to speak at a lunchtime ceremony in front of the new building, which is the center of campus for students.

The ceremony brought words of support from the following individuals:
President of the SMUHSD Board of Trustees, Robert Griffin
Superintendent of the SMUHSD, Samuel Johnson Jr.
Principal, Tess Lauffer
President of the Board of Supervisors, Mark Church
Mayor of the City of San Bruno, Larry Franzella
Program Manager from the Steinberg Architect Group, Mani Farhadi
Principal Architect from Bill Gould Design Architects, Bill Gould
Project Manager from Kitchell Construction, Jim Deasy
Student Body President, Sheila Damato

The festive atmosphere was enhanced by the Capuchino Band. Members of the Spirit Squad held the ribbon as it was cut, officially opening the new complex. Students and staff alike expressed appreciation for the open and collegial-like environment created by the new buildings and court. The renaissance of Capuchino High School and rebuilding of its academic life is evidenced by a new “spirit” on the campus.

Cap's Spirit-Walk-A-Thon is a Huge Success

Capuchino’s First Annual Spirit-Walk-A-Thon held on September 10th was a huge success! Staff and students raised over $20,000 celebrating our “school spirit” and the improvement of our campus. Writing letters to local businesses, a parent team brought in $2,900 to sponsor the free BBQ lunch and prizes.

The entire student body, along with faculty, walked a campus route that led them back into the new “Spirit Court” at Capuchino. In conjunction with the modernization program, this beautiful court is in the center of campus and leads into the new Cafeteria, opening later in the fall.

The proceeds raised by the students put $2000 in each graduating class fund, bought a new sound system for the Little Theatre, and additional outdoor table seating for students. This first-ever school spirit event truly demonstrated the parental, community, student and staff support for Capuchino as a school that is on the move!
